Sharp AQUOS 500 Qualifying Picks

Qualifying for the Sharp AQUOS 500 begins at 6:00 pm EST on SPEED
Pick: Juan Pablo Montoya at +100 over Casey Mears.
This is Juan’s first year full time with Nascar and he seems to have a knack at qualifying and if it weren’t for the enemies he’s made along the way, he could be a good driver. As I’ve said before, qualifying is a different animal than racing around the track with 42 other drivers.
California was the first race this season after the Nascar Super Bowl that is the Daytona 500 in February.
Montoya’s second start of the year was 9th.
Casey had his best start at this track with an outside row next to Pablo but in years past has not faired well. Last year his best start was 20th. The last two fall races here, he started 33rd.
At intermediate tracks such as LasVegas, Atl and Texas this year, the results were quite the same. Casey started no better that 33rd while JPM started 16th twice and a 4th in LV.
Books sure are putting a lot of stock in Mears. Not me!
Olympic has this matchups with Montoya at +100.
