San Antonio Spurs at Sacramento Kings

The San Antonio Spurs are 15.5-point road favorites over the Sacramento Kings with a total of 229.5 at most books. My play is Spurs -15.5.
Victor Wembanyama just did something the league had not seen since Bob McAdoo in 1974: 52 points, 24 rebounds, eight blocks. Two nights before that, Luka Doncic hung 40 on these same Kings. Sacramento is 1-7 and still hunting its first home win. The number is enormous for the NBA. The mismatch is bigger.
This series already told on itself
October 27 in San Antonio ended 130-103. Wembanyama had 29 and 10. Julian Champagnie stacked 26. The Spurs led by 26 at half and spent the rest of the night managing the margin. March ended the same way — another 28-point Spurs win. Domantas Sabonis can fill a box score (20-14-8 in the first meeting; 16 and 17 against the Lakers on Wednesday). He cannot fix a defense that was giving up 56.6 points in the paint per game, worst in the league.
De’Aaron Fox comes home in the other jersey. Darius Acuff Jr. is a legitimate bucket-getter at 25.6 a night for a 19-year-old, but he just went 8-of-24 against Los Angeles. Keegan Murray (ankle) and Maxime Raynaud (knee) are out. Ben Simmons is done for the year. Doug Christie is throwing zone looks at stars and still watching teams walk to the rim.

San Antonio’s supporting cast is no longer a rumor. Dylan Harper and Stephon Castle are sharing creation duties. Devin Vassell spaces. Tobias Harris (calf) and Jayden Quaintance (knee) are out, and it has not mattered — Mitch Johnson’s nine-man group just survived Dallas after Wembanyama went nuclear inside the arc (15-of-20 twos) when the threes would not fall.
Six straight wins. Plus-eight-ish net rating against a Kings club sitting around minus-13. Road favorites of 15 are supposed to be poison. So are 0-3 home teams that cannot protect the paint against the best rim protector alive.
Where this gets away from me. The Spurs tip in Portland on Saturday. Blowout scripts invite early checkouts. Sabonis can keep a second half from turning into a 25-point runaway, and the public is absolutely hammering San Antonio after the 52-point headline. If this line is a point or two past the true edge, the cover gets sweaty.
I would still lay it down to about 14. At 15.5 I am betting the talent gap shows up before the coasting does.
Projected score: Spurs 124, Kings 107.
The Pick: Spurs -15.5
