This Sunday in Kansas City, Missouri there is a huge AFC game between two teams that are in need of a win in a big way. Kansas City started the season at 5-0 but since that time have gone 1-4 since that great start. The Buffalo Bills also started 2017 playing well above expectations but have now dropped three straight but still sit in 2nd place in the AFC East Division. This game is very important for both of these teams regarding the playoff race that is coming.
The line has the Chiefs as a ten point home favorite over the Bills while the over under is set at 46.5 points total. As of late Tuesday night, the majority of the betting action was on the Kansas City Chiefs to get the job done. 57% of the action likes KC to cover and 59% of the bettors like this game to go over the posted total of 46.5.
At one time Kansas City looked like the class of the AFC. They started 5-0 and that included a double digit win at New England as well as the Philadelphia Eagles. Since that 5-0 start, the Chiefs have gone 1-4 and this past Sunday the season hit an all time low when they lost to the New York Giants in overtime…a Giants team that until that time only had one win all season. The Chiefs are still ranked respectfully in most statistical categories. They are 10th in both passing yards and rushing yards in all of the NFL. The Chiefs offense is also scoring 26.2 points per game which ranks them 7th in all of the NFL. Lately though, the offense has struggled. Kareem Hunt is not the explosive playmaker he was early on and this is affecting the passing game as well. Against the Giants, the Chiefs only managed to score nine points. The week prior they were held to just 17 points by the Cowboys…its time the Chiefs offense stepped up and got back on track.
The Chiefs although they have struggled lately should have the advantage. The Bills have looked even worse. Last Sunday they were blasted by the Los Angeles Chargers 54-24 and the week prior to that they were beat by the New Orleans Saints by a score of 47-10. After the Saints loss, Bills head coach, Sean McDermott, decided to start quarterback Nathan Peterman over Tyrod Taylor….It did not go well. Peterman threw fourinterceptions on his first eight pass attempts. Thisopened the flood gates early and Buffalo was never able to recover. Word is that this weekend, the Bills will go back to Taylor in hopes to get the team back in the winning column. In2017, the Bills are scoring 20 points a gamewhich is right around the middle of the league. The main success for Buffalo has been the run game but now that defenses have learned they can stack the box and justforce Taylor or whoever the QB may be to throw and there is little success, they have made things tough on the Bills. If Buffalo wants to get this win…or at least be competitive, they MUST be able to get something going in the pass game.
I do not like double digit spreads in the NFL, I have said this many times before. However, I think the loss to the Giants was a huge wake up call for the Kansas City Chiefs and I think Buffalo is catching them at a very bad time. I have a feeling the Chiefs not only cover this ten point spread, but I think they dominate this game from start to finish. I like the Chiefs to get a 30-14 type win this Sunday and get themselves back in the discussion for an AFC playoff run.
