People are already talking about the Seattle Seahawks slim chances of making the playoffs because of their 0-2 start. Relax folks; the fact is, this is not too much to worry about as the Hawks will get things going their way this weekend against the struggling Chicago Bears. The Bears may be on the verge of playing a lot of golf in January and February. Seattle might not be too worried about the Bears this weekend but they really need to get everyone on board (Kam Chancellor) and for the love of God, go win a game or 10. The Seahawks lost to the Packers for the first time in 4 meetings with them, and they lost by double digits (27-17). Its the first time Seattle has dropped a game by double digits in a few years. On the other side of the field, the Bears will start backup QB Jimmy Clausen, who is in for the injured Jay Cutler (hamstring, out at least 2 games). This contest may be all Seattle as they are tough at home with the 12th Man.

Chicagos offense will no doubt be an experiment at best without Cutler but to Clausens credit he did play well last season when he filled in but then he got injured (concussion) and that was it until now. Clausen can be effective if he stays in control and makes savvy plays and solid decisions. If hes not careful, Settles D will make a mockery of him and the rest of the boys.

Seattle will be hungry for their first win of the season which every single Hawks fan is expecting this Sunday. The opening line out of Las Vegas is Seattle -14 which is probably dead-on but will likely tighten later this week and closer to kickoff. The Bears defense has been lackluster and especially the D-line of Chicago;they cant finish off a QB sack and this has been the main reason they have given up 39.5 points per game through the first two weeks. Ouch! Where do ya hurt fellas? Even with Seattle playing without one of their best secondary players they will still shut down the Bears passing game and stuff the run; yes, it will likely be a long afternoon for the Bears.

Meanwhile, in the Pacific Northwest, Seattle prepares for what should be a statement game after two difficult contests on the road to open the season. Losses to the Rams 34-31, and Green Bay 27-17 proves that Seattles defense has softened a bit from previous years and it is uncharacteristic of them to allow so many points, 48 in just two games thus far. But on the positive sideSeattle never does well in St. Louis and playing at Green Bay against Mr. Rodgers is never easy eitherthe Hawks get a pass for these two games but now they must flush the first two weeks and get started from here on out.

Offensively, Seattle has the tools in place to get Ws. Seattles addition of Super TE Jimmy Graham, and the balanced WR crew coupled with the rushing power of Lynch and the scrambling ability of Wilson should produce a ton of points. However, it has been typical Seahawks MO, hot, cold, hot, cold, warm, Luke-warm. Sometimes the Hawks look fantastic and other times they look stagnant. They need to get Graham more involved. He had 5 catches and a TD in the season opener at St. Louis but against Green Bay he only had one catch. It may take time to get Jimmy fully involved in the offense but the Hawks need to get it worked out if they intend to make a run deep in the playoffs.

This game will be a welcome home party for the Hawks. Seattle is a significant favorite to begin with and it will prove true by the end. I like Seattle to cleanup on both sides of the ball, make big plays, finish plays on defense, and blowout the Bears at CenturyLink Field. Seattle rolls all over Chicago 42-17. Luck to ya.

Wilson’s Pick to Cover the Point Spread: Seattle covers in a boat-race.
