We have an NFC battle of winless teams this Sunday. The New York
Giants
will travel to Charlotte, NC to take on the
Carolina Panthers. Many expected Carolina to get out to a slow start, but no one
would have guessed the G-Men would be sitting 0-2. People in New York and
many of the experts still believe the Giants can make a run and turn the
season around, while Carolina on the other hand, people are already sticking
a fork in. I would not be so quick to make any rash judgements on either
team. There is a long ways to go. The line as we speak in most books is
a straight pick em game. This could change by kickoff but I don’t see it
getting much one sided either way.

What I find truly comical is how everyone is so quick to write off the Panthers while they still consider New York a contender. Have you seen the Giants play this season? They are terrible, there really isn’t any other way to describe it. Eli Manning has already thrown 7 interceptions to just 5 touchdowns, and the running game is ranked dead last in all of the NFL. So with Eli throwing to the wrong team, and the running backs averaging a whopping 35 yards a game, that’s right, A GAME, I don’t see this team doing much of anything. In years past, the Giants could rely on their defense to keep them competitive, but this year, the defense isn’t bad, but it is just average. They rank in the middle of the pack in pretty much every meaningful category. Am I saying the Giants are done for? By no means am I saying that, but lets get real, through two weeks, they look bad, really bad. The key to this game is play sound defense to let Carolina make their own mistakes. Carolina is prone to let close games slip away. As long as Eli and the offense can just control the ball, there should be no problems winning. Only question is…will Eli throw it to his guys or the Panthers?

Isn’t it amazing how I said just two weeks ago how last season the Panthers lost so many close games that they just pretty much choked away? Well, through two weeks in the 2013 season, it is the same story. A huge fumble kept them from taking the lead over Seattle for the win, and then last week, they lost by 1 point to the Bills. I am glad I am not a Panthers fan, that would get really frustrating. I feel this is a game that Carolina could win. Playing at home against a team that has been even more disappointing than they have should be a good recipe for victory, but as the last 365 have shown us, the Panthers can always find a way to turn a good opportunity into a loss.

Bob’s Pick to Cover the Point Spread: I am going to be crazy here, I am going against everyone who thinks the Giants are just going through a phase. I think Carolina wins this game and wins big. I have zero faith in the Giants right now, and until I am proven wrong, I will go against them. I’m rolling with the NFC South’s Carolina Panthers to win outright.
