The Philadelphia Eagles will host their division rival New York Giants to close out the 2022 NFL season this Sunday. We were expecting the Eagles to have the #1 seed locked up long before Week 18 and the Giants to probably need to win this game to get into the playoffs. Instead, the Giants have clinched their playoff spot and are locked into the #6 seed – probably going to Minnesota to play the Vikings – while the Eagles have to win the game to lock up the No1 seed and could even cede the division to the Cowboys and be the #5 seed if they fail to win this game. Considering all of this, BOVADA.LV has made the Eagles 14-point favorites and set the game total at 43.
How To Bet This Game
I expect the Giants to rest their key starters and the Eagles to roll over the second-string Giants, but covering the 14-point spread is a coin flip. If I had to bet the full game, I would expect the Giants get a back door cover, based on the Eagles jumping out to a big lead early, and then pulling their key starters in the second half. Also, Tyrod Taylor is a competent back up for the Giants, and he has the ability to run and score some garbage touchdowns. This is a great live betting opportunity. If the Eagles come out and score a couple of touchdowns in the first quarter, the live line might be 17½ or even higher, at which time it would be time to pull the trigger with the Giants. Also, if the Eagles score a couple of touchdowns early and the in-game total goes up to around 50, playing the under makes a lot of sense because when all the stars are out of the game, the coaches will be calling run plays to keep the clock running so there shouldn’t be a lot of scoring.
There are multiple better ways we can get on the Eagles for this game. Here are a few of my favorites.
Eagles First Half -9.5 or First Quarter -3.5
Philly is going to come out with guns blazing to get a lead to get Jalen Hurts sharp and then get him out of the game. Hurts has missed the last two games, and the offense couldn’t get anything going last week against the Saints, I expect the unit to be dialed and to put up points on their early drives. The Philly 1st-string defense should be able to shut down Taylor and the Giants, especially if there is no Saquon Barkley. Philly has been excellent all year in the first half, so look for that trend to continue this week. Betting the Eagles in the first quarter should also work out, but the coin flip comes more into play, so I prefer the first half.
First Score Of The Game – Eagles Touchdown (+120)
I like this bet more than the Eagles First Quarter bet. The projected score for this game based on the 14-point spread and 43-point total is about Eagles 28 – Giants 14. This would imply the Eagles are twice as likely to score a touchdown as the Giants, so we should expect the Eagles would score first. I think they finish their first drive in the endzone, so I like this play. If you want a little better odds and think maybe they stub their toe in the red zone, you can get the Eagles’ Field Goal at +270.
Miles Sanders To Score A Touchdown (-??)
The Eagles are going to want to get their running game going. They are without stud Right Tackle Lane Johnson who has proven to be an issue in their run game. They need to get their run blocking in sync and again prove they can bully opposing defenses, so look for Sanders to get the ball often in the first half. His biggest competition for rushing touchdowns is Hurts, but with Hurts nursing the injured shoulder, I would look for only 1 or 2 designed runs for him and none around the goal line where a Giant linebacker could zero in on him. If the Eagles score three times in the first half, Sanders almost assuredly gets 1 of them. This line hasn’t been released yet, but should be around -110.
Team To Score Last NYG (+226)
I think there is a good chance that there will be a lot of garbage time when the Giants are trying harder to score than the Eagles. This is a pretty good payout for the expectation that Taylor can lead the G-Men to a meaningless touchdown before the Eagles hold the ball as time runs out.
