Last week, the Philadelphia Eagles suffered a significant setback due to an upset loss to the Arizona Cardinals. Before the week 17 contest, the Eagles were in sole control of the NFC East with a very easy remaining schedule. However, the Eagles’ defense was ripped apart by QB Kyler Murray and the Cardinals’ offense, resulting in a 35-31 loss. As a result, the Eagles no longer control their destiny and are staring down the barrel of a potential #5 seed in the playoffs. In order for Philadelphia to take back control of the NFC East and No.2 overall seed in the NFC, they would need a win over the Giants this Sunday combined with a Dallas loss to Washington.

Considering Dallas is 13.5-point favorite in their road trip to Washington, the Eagles’ chances to reclaim the division appear bleak. Perhaps the bigger concern is the fact that Philadelphia is not playing their best football. Before last week’s upset loss to Arizona, the Eagles had dropped 3 of their last four games, with their only victory residing in a week 16 contest against the New York Giants, which resulted in a 33-25 victory. At this time, that victory remains the Eagles’ only win in the last five games. For Sunday’s week 18 rematch against the G-men, the Eagles will be 5-point betting favorites and in desperate need of putting together a solid performance on both sides of the ball before the playoffs begin next week.

Philadelphia Eagles vs. New York Giants Betting Analysis

Last week, the Giants suffered their 3rd straight loss against the Los Angeles Rams. Before the week 17 showdown, the Rams were among the hottest teams in the NFC. However, the Giants easily covered a 7-point betting spread and had every opportunity to win the game outright in the 4th quarter. Giants QB Tyrod Taylor posted a strong performance by hitting 27 of 41 passing for 319 yards, which included an 80-yard bomb to WR Darius Slayton. In the end, the Giants fell to the Rams 26-25 but displayed competitiveness on both sides of the football. Head Coach Brian Daboll and the Giants have experienced a lot of injuries throughout the season and have remained extremely competitive throughout the 2nd half of the season despite using several different quarterbacks.

For this week’s showdown against the Eagles, the Giants will need to have another stellar performance on the offensive side of the football. Despite Philadelphia’s struggles, the offense has been strong with QB Jalen Hurts, WR AJ Brown, and RB DAndre Swift. Unfortunately, the Eagles will be without one of the star receivers this week as WR DeVonta Smith will be sidelined with an ankle injury. While the Eagles’ offense has been somewhat subpar in recent weeks, the Eagles’ defense has been even worse, giving up 70 points over the last two games. Philadelphia has a much better match-up this week against a New York team that has struggled to move the football. However, the Giants have also appeared more capable of extending the play and hitting opportunities down the field with Tyrod Taylor behind center. Against an Eagles defense that has been shredded for 250 yards per game through the air, the Giants could have opportunities again on Sunday.

Philadelphia Eagles vs. New York Giants Betting Prediction

I’ve watched the Eagles closely over the last few weeks and believe they have legitimate concerns on the defensive side of the football. With that being said, I’m not sure if the G-men have enough firepower to pull off the upset. Instead, I believe the “over” is the best play in this match-up. The Eagles should put 100% effort towards ceiling this victory, as the Cowboys will be playing in the late afternoon slot as well. As long as the Giants’ offense helps just a bit, I believe the “over” is a high-probability play!

Jays Pick: Take the over 41.5
