San Francisco and Washington are both two games under .500 on the season but still alive in NFC playoff chases, heading into this match-up slated for Sunday afternoon on neutral turf in Arizona. The Football Team is tied for the lead in the NFC East while the 49ers are still chasing a wild-card berth. Can Washington continue its recent good play? Can San Francisco stay alive? And how are we playing this game with our free NFL pick?

NFL Betting Odds

Week 14 NFL betting odds opened San Francisco at -4 for Sunday’s game, with an over/under of right around 43.5. Early betting action then dipped the Niners to -3 and the total to 43.

Washington Betting Preview

The Football Team just extended its winning streak to three and carded one of the great wins of this NFL season so far by beating previously unbeaten Pittsburgh Monday night 23-17. Washington, playing as a six-point dog, spotted the Steelers the first 14 points of the game and trailed 14-3 at the half. But the Team then scored the first seven points of the second half, gave up a field goal, then scored the last 13 points for the come-from-behind victory, ending Pittsburgh’s run at a perfect season.

Washington got out-gained by the Steelers, but only by a margin of 326-318. And prior to that, the Team had out-gained each of its previous six opponents.

Washington has also out-rushed its last three foes.

Two games ago, the Team beat Dallas 41-16, and three games ago, they defeated Cincinnati 20-9.

At 5-7 overall, Washington is tied with the Giants for first place in the NFC East. However, the Team loses the head-to-head tiebreaker to New York after losing two close games to the Giants a few weeks back. So a tie does Washington no good; it’s got to make up a game on New York from here on out.

San Francisco Betting Preview

San Francisco, meanwhile, following a big win over the Rams two weeks ago, suffered a letdown and lost to Buffalo Monday night 34-24. The Niners actually struck first with a touchdown late in the first quarter but trailed 17-7 at the half. San Francisco then pulled to within 17-10 early in the third quarter but gave up the next 10 points and couldn’t recover, losing outright as a two-point favorite.

The 49ers got out-gained by the Bills 449-402 and lost time of possession by a 35:25 split.

San Francisco has actually out-gained five of its last seven opponents, but it’s only 3-4 both SU and ATS over that span because it’s turned the ball over 15 times.

Two weeks ago, the 49ers turned the ball over three times but took it away four times in a 23-20 win over the Rams.

At 5-7 overall, San Francisco trails Minnesota by one game in the battle for the third and final NFC wild-card spot.

These two teams have played four common opponents this season. The 49ers are 3-2 both SU and ATS against Arizona, the Rams, the Giants, and Philadelphia, while Washington is only 1-4 SU, 2-3 ATS vs. those four foes.

These teams just met back in Week 7 of last season, a 9-0 Niners win in a rainstorm in Washington. Jimmy Garoppolo quarterbacked San Francisco that day against Case Keenum for the Redskins.

On the personnel front Washington RB Antonio Gibson, who leads the team in rushing this season with 659 yards, is doubtful for this week with a bad toe.

NFL Betting Trends

Favorites are 124-66 SU but just 80-109 ATS in the NFL this season.

Totals Report

Unders are 7-5 in Washington games this season, which are averaging 44 total points.

Totals are split 6-6 in 49ers games this season, which are averaging 48 points.

Unders played 8-6 in the NFL last week, but overs are 96-92 on the season.

Free NFL Pick

Washington is coming off a great win over Pittsburgh, and while we like what we see with Coach Rivera and that defense, we won’t be surprised if the Team experiences a letdown this week. San Francisco, meanwhile, is coming off lacking performance against Buffalo, but we won’t be surprised by a bounce-back effort this week. Plus, the 49ers own the better records against common opponents. We like San Francisco in this spot. Bet this game and ALL your NFL picks at reduced odds -105 (instead of -110) at BAS Sportsbook!
