There is no greater rivalry perhaps in all of the world, than Liverpool and Manchester United. The story between these two titans is one filled with a history of achievement and accolades. These two teams have accumulated more English Premier League championships and European championships than any other two franchises in all of the United Kingdom. Dating back to the Victorian Era, Liverpool and Manchester have been competitors in commerce, industry, and prevalence. It is only appropriate that soccer would be no different. This chippy and scrappy rivalry is one that pits the Scousers and the Mancunians. The latest edition in the English Premier Leagues most episodic and storied feud will take place when the Reds and Red Devils square off at Anfield in Liverpool on October 14th. Both Liverpool and Manchester United had a lot of hype surrounding both clubs as they entered the 2017-18 campaign. However, there has been a large difference in results achieved. Currently, the Mancunians sit atop the table with their cross-city rivals Manchester City with 19 points. Liverpool trails the Red Army by seven points in seventh place. Both City and United have already gotten some separation from the rest of the pack as they have both been dominant in the early going.
Liverpool has been in mediocre form as of late. The Reds have won just one match in their last four. The results are certainly disenfranchising considering the sky was supposed to be the limit for Jurgen Klopps bunch after all the acquisitions made in the transfer window period. The pace of the Liverpool wingers was supposed to be unparalleled, yet Manchester City smoked the Reds by a score of 5-0 a few weeks ago. The most recent outing for Liverpool was a disappointing one as they drew recently promoted Newcastle United in a 1-1 stalemate on October 1st.
Manchester United has been a scary team for many to deal with in the early stages of 2017-18. Very simply, this team has a plethora of weapons and a manager who knows how to use them. The signings of Nemanja Matic and Romelu Lukaku have taken this squad to an absurd level. The Red Devils under the captainship of Jose Mourinho have emerged as a national threat and true title contender. In their last five, Manchester United has secured four victories and just one draw. Their most recent exploit was a 4-0 beatdown of Crystal Palace. Like their neighbors across town, Man U has surrendered just one goal. The prime difference in the standings in United scoring one less goal than City, which is 22 compared to 21. Very simply, Manchester United has outscored and virtually outclassed all opponents. The team has yet to lose a game in the 2017-18 campaign.
The Red Devils are a very difficult team to lay here given the fact they are offered at virtually the same price as Liverpool. However, this should generate some red flags given the fact that the form of the two sides is far contrasting compared to the prices offered. As stated, Liverpool and Manchester United is a fierce rivalry and thus anything can happen here. Liverpool is a tough team to beat at home and you can be rest assured that all of the Merseyside will be out in droves to support the Reds as they take on their foes just thirty miles away. All of this likely creates appeal for the Reds. This match-up has all the makings of a barnburner and will likely have a lot of scoring. This can be alarming considering Liverpool has conceded many goals, so far this year. A win for Liverpool gets it back in the title race. A draw is a moral victory be that the Reds didnt have to lose to United at home. Unfortunately, neither will happen as Liverpools defense is not good enough to repel Manchester Uniteds attack nor can they even keep this one close. Were taking United with the OVER 2.5 in what might be a nasty loss for the Reds. If both hit, we net 2.8 units with a risk of 2.12 units on the table.
