The English Premier League will crack on with another Northern rivalry between two of Englands powerhouse cities: Newcastle and Manchester. Its the Mancs versus the Geordies. The Magpies against the Red Devils. The contest will take place in the Theatre of Dreams also known as Old Trafford in the Stretford section of Greater Manchester when Man U host NC U on Saturday, November 28th, 2017 to meet with their adversaries.
The two teams enter in two different positions. For Manchester United, they are trying to keep pace with their cross-city rivals who have jumped out to a commanding eight-point lead, 11 games into the 2017/18 campaign. Very simply, Manchester City has been stunning and as good as Manchester United has been, their level of play has not been able to compete. Newcastle United sits in the eleventh position with 14 points, a total of nine points behind the second place Red Devils and 17 points behind the table-toppers, Manchester City. The Magpies are delighted to be once again back in the top flight after spending a year in the Championship thanks to relegation in the 2015/16 campaign. To remind readers of the efforts of NC U in the 2016/17 campaign, the Magpies were simply the best. The Magpies tallied up 94 points and edged out Brighton and Hove Albion for the EFL Championship trophy. Overall, Newcastle United went 29-7-10 with a +45 goal differential. The story has been far different in the EPL as Newcastle have won just one of their previous six fixtures. One of the three losses came against the aforementioned Brighton and Hove Albion.
Under manager Jose Mourinho, the Red Devils have played with exquisite quality. As mentioned, their cross-city rivals have been playing at a level that is unprecedented. Nevertheless, Manchester United has a lot of the toys to play with. The team has an exceptional crop of attacking forwards that include the likes of Paul Pogba, Romelu Lukaku, and Anthony Martial. Juan Mata and Marcus Rashford are also key contributors. When Mourinho expressed discontent in the opening stages of the 2017/18 campaign because he felt his team was too concerned with playing a video game style of soccer, he was right; this style would eventually catch up to them. The Reds love to score and not worry about anything else but that was proven to be a reckless approach. United fell at Huddersfield Town, as a result. Nevertheless, the Red Devils won three in a row before losing most recently to Chelsea 1-0. Playing a team such as Newcastle United at home is regarded as a step down for this outfit. However, this team has stubbed its toe in games it should have otherwise won previously.
The Reds require exceptional juice in this market if you wish to take them back on their own pitch. We will have none of that or advise such an initiative. At the same token, it is hard to imagine Newcastle storming the castle and stealing a win. However, a draw is feasible be that we have seen teams like Leicester City and Stoke City draw here before.
