Cleveland Guardians at Tampa Bay Rays (ALCS Game 2)
Tuesday, October 13, 2026
8:00 PM ET, Tropicana Field

Tampa Bay is a short home favorite over Cleveland in Game 2 of the ALCS with the moneyline at Rays -130 and the total set at 7. My play is the Under 7.

Freddy Peralta is pitching like a different guy than his season line shows. He finished the regular season 10-11 with a 4.42 ERA, but over his final 38.2 innings he posted a 0.93 ERA and a 0.80 WHIP with 30 strikeouts and 10 walks. That’s the version of Peralta the Rays need, and it’s the version Cleveland’s lineup will see tonight. If he carries that form into October, the Guardians won’t find many big innings early.

Parker Messick is the right lefty for this matchup. He went 12-9 with a 2.56 ERA during the regular season, striking out 193 in 186.1 innings with a 1.06 WHIP. Tampa Bay ranked 25th in OPS against left-handed pitching. The Rays scored twice in the first inning of Game 1 and managed just one more run the rest of the night, and they’ll be facing a better lefty tonight.

Game 1 went over, but the early innings told a different story. The Rays led 2-0 after one inning, and the game was 2-1 through six before Patrick Bailey tied it with a solo homer in the seventh. Cleveland broke it open with two runs in the eighth on Nathaniel Lowe’s single and three more in the ninth against the Tampa Bay bullpen for a 7-3 final. The starters combined to allow four runs over 10 innings. Most of the damage came late against a Rays bullpen that ranked 14th in the majors with a 3.99 ERA.

That bullpen is the risk. If Peralta exits early, Cleveland has already shown it can do damage against Tampa Bay’s relievers. Messick has also struggled this postseason, with a 5.40 ERA over two starts. But Cleveland’s bullpen ranked sixth in MLB with a 3.54 ERA and allowed just two hits after Foster Griffin left in Game 1, so the Rays’ late-inning path is narrow. A 3-2 type of game is the most likely outcome. Seven runs is a push, so this needs six or fewer.
