If you had told me five weeks ago that a game between the Kansas City Chiefs and New York Jets would be not only an important game for the Chiefs but a tough one, you would think I was crazy. Well, here we are. The Kansas City Chiefs, who started the season with a 5-0 record, now comes into MetLife Stadium at 6-5 and looking and hoping to get back on track and praying to get back in the win column which is something that has happened rarely lately. The Jets enter this game at 4-7 overall but theirrecord does not indicate just how competitive they have been even in some of their losses. One could argue that theJets have givenaway two games and with that, they would also be 6-5 coming into this Sunday.
Although the Kansas City Chiefs have struggled as of late, they are still 3.5 favorites on the road in East Rutherford. On paper, the Chiefs should come into town, get an easy win, and head back to Kansas City. Well, things will not be that easy, or at least I do not see it being so clear cut. The public seems to disagree withme onthis. As of late Tuesday night, the Chiefs had 63% of the betting action on them.As for the total points, 55% likes this gameto stay under the total of 44 combined points.
Kansas City entered 2017 with a vengeance with a two score win over the New England Patriots then coasted a 5-0 start. Since that time, things have fallen apart. The Chiefs are on a three game skid with losses to the Giants, Cowboys, and Bills….none which are good teams themselves.From a statistical standpoint, Kansas City isone of the top teams in the NFL. They are ranked 7th in scoring and in the top 15 in scoring defense, passing yards, and rushing yards. This is a good team with lots of talent, but they have to start performing on both sides of the ball in order to get this win. The key will be to just basically get back on track. There is not one particular area that the Chiefs need to improve…its all around. Kansas City must step up and be the team they were the first five weeks of the season.
Like I mentioned earlier, the Jets have a losing record but this team is nowhere near as bad as many expected them to bein 2017. I seriously expected this teamto go 3-13 or worse. These guys already have four wins and to be honest, they are just a couple of plays away from having five or six wins so far. From a stats issue, theNew York Jets are right where they are record wise. They are just about averageor a tad below in every major team category. The key to this game is to keep the Chiefs on the ropes. It seems that each game the Chiefs struggle they lose more and more confidence. The Jets need to take advantageof this.Traveling west toeast is always much more difficult than the other way around. This is anearlier kickoff than the Chiefs are used to and for them tobe a team that has not played their best in the last month, every disadvantage at this point could be huge for a team in the position as KansasCity. The Jetsneed a faststart.Whether it be in the passing game or run game, the Jets
need early success and early scores. If the Jets can send a message that they are not going to lay down and if they show that the Chiefs are in for a fight, I like New York’s chances. This will probably be an ugly game…or at least I have a feeling it will be.
As much as I love looking at stats, numbers, and other factors, I just do not trust the Chiefs right now. This is a team that has looked bad for a month or so and not only that, they have lost to some BAD teams. The Jets play hard and KC is on the road in this one. Inot only think the Jets keep this close, I think the Kansas City Chiefs are having issues finding themselves and where once the season ends, the Chiefs may have it figured out, right now, I do not see it. I cannot risk a wager on this teamright now, especially when they are giving up points. I like this game to endwith a close final and regardless of the winner, neither team will winby four. This will be a close one til the very end with the Jets covering and maybe winning.
