The Kansas City Chiefs are coming off a very impressive high profile win against the New England Patriots on the opening night of the NFL. The Chiefs dominated the Patriots in the second half after a sluggish start and pulled away with 42-27 win. The Chiefs showed a very explosive offense and stamped themselves as a Super Bowl contender with their impressive win in front of a national audience.
The Philadelphia Eagles went on the road and knocked off their division rival Washington Redskins. The game was back and forth with the Eagles holding a 22-17 at the 2 minute warning. The Redskins has the ball with a chance to win but the Eagles sacked Kirk Cousins causing a fumble that was returned for a touchdown accounting for the final score of 30-17.
Kansas City made a big splash in the offseason by moving up to draft Patrick Mahomes in the first round despite having Alex Smith returning. The move seemed to spark Smith as he came out of the gates with a great start to the 2017 season completing 28 of 35 passes for 368 yards and 4 touchdowns. The Chiefs lost starting RB Spencer Ware in the preseason but rookie Kareem Hunt put Chiefs Kingdom fans at ease with a spectacular performance. Hunt fumbled on his first carry but ended up with 148 yards rushing and 98 yards receiving and scored 3 touchdowns. The Chiefs also have an explosive WR in Tyreek Hill who had 133 yards receiving and a touchdown.
The Chiefs defense looked very good against the Patriots in the second half with Justin Houston looking like he is back to full health after recording 2 sacks. The downside in this game for the Chiefs was the loss of All Pro Safety Eric Berry who will be out for the season after suffering an Achilles tear.
Philadelphia is led by 2nd year starting QB Carson Wentz who threw for 307 yards and 2 touchdowns in the Week 1 victory. TE Zach Ertz was the leading receiving with 8 receptions for 93 yards. WR Nelson Agholor added 6 catches for 86 yards and a touchdown. The ground game was not very productive as LeGarrette Blount led the attack with 46 yards rushing.
The Eagles defense was tough on Kirk Cousins as they got to him for 4 sacks and recovered 3 fumbles with the one fumble returned for a touchdown.
The Chiefs are led by head coach Andy Reid who came to Kansas City after coaching 14 years in Philadelphia. Reid is in his 5th in Kansas City and has amassed a record of 44-21. The Eagles are led by head coach Doug Pederson who served as the offensive coordinator at Kansas City under Andy Reid from 2013-15. Pederson is in his 2nd year as head coach and has a record of 8-9 as a head coach.
The Chiefs have a great home field advantage when it comes to winning as they are 11-5 at home the past 3 years; however, they are only 5-11 ATS the spread in those games. The Eagles are 6-11 on the road the past 3 years and 7-10 ATS in those games.
Jerbeeks Pick to Cover the Point Spread: The old adage of you are never as good as you look the previous week seems to ring true on this game for me. The Chiefs looked fantastic against the Patriots in week 1 and I think they have a little letdown in this spot. I look for a tough game here with the Chiefs winning 24-23 so I recommend a play on the Eagles +4.5 to cover the spread and get you the money. *** Bet your Phi/KC pick using your credit card at an online bookie where it WILL work for deposits and where you’ll receive a generous 100% signup bonus on your first deposit of $100 to $250!
