The Kansas City Chiefs pulled off an unlikely upset last week against the Minnesota Vikings. The Chiefs entered the week 9 tough road contest without star quarterback Patrick Mahomes against a red-hot Vikings team that had won 4 straight games. However, the Chiefs were able to get big plays from their star players to stifle the Vikings win streak. The victory silenced doubters and proved the Chiefs are still one of the top teams in the AFC. This week Kansas City will look to keep the momentum alive with another difficult road challenge as 4 point favorites against the Tennessee Titans at Nissan Stadium.

Quarterback Patrick Mahomes – Injury Update

The Chiefs victory last week against Minnesota was more surprising due to the fact that Patrick Mahomes was sidelined for the 2nd straight game. Mahomes suffered a dislocated knee in the week 7 victory over the Broncoes. While the recovery time for that type of injury is usually in the neighborhood of 4-6 weeks, the Chiefs are expecting Mahomes to return this week against the Titans. Mahomes actually practiced last week but was kept out of the week 9 meeting with the Vikings because the risk of re-injury remained elevated. Apparently, the risk of re-injury drops off greatly after 3 weeks which means Mahomes will have a chance to play on Sunday. Mahomes is officially listed as questionable and his status should be monitored as the week progresses.

Chiefs vs. Titans Quick Preview

This Sunday’s showdown in Nashville will feature two gritty teams. Despite going to backup Matt Moore last week, the Chiefs got help from their stars in the upset over Minnesota. Running back Damien Williams busted open a 91 yard touchdown run to finish with 125 yards on 12 carries. WR Tyreek Hill had 6 grabs for 140 yards with 1 touchdown and Matt Moore played well hitting 25 of 35 passing for 275 yards with 1 score and 0 picks. To put things simply, the offense found ways to make plays which was surprising especially on the ground where Kansas City ranks just 24th in the NFL in rushing.

The question for Kansas City is can they replicate that success against a tough Titans defense this week. Tennessee ranks 7th in the NFL allowing just 18.3 points per game and have performed well in recent weeks behind quarterback Ryan Tannehill who took over for former starter Marcus Mariota. Since Tannehill took over in week 7, the Titans are 2-1 SU and 2-1 ATS. Receivers A.J Brown and Corey Davis have emerged as legitimate weapons and the offense is doing just enough to compete. If this Titans defense can keep the Chiefs from making several big plays for the 2nd week in a row, tis offense has enough firepower to get the outright win.

Kansas City vs. Tennessee betting trends

The Chiefs are just 2-4 ATS in their last 6 games and have hit the ‘over’ in 5 of their last 7 games. The Titans are just 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games against AFC opponents but have performed well against AFC West opponents with a 5-2 mark ATS in their last 7 match-ups. The Titans are also 5-2 ATS in their last 7 meetings against the Chiefs. The Titans have hit the ‘over’ mark in 6 of their last 8 home games and have also hit the ‘over’ in 4 of their last 5 meetings against Kansas City.

Jay’s Pick to Cover the Point Spread: My prediction on this game relies on the availability of Patrick Mahomes. Despite a decent performance last week against Minnesota, I believe the Titans can beat the Chiefs with Matt Moore under center. If Mahomes returns, the play is not nearly as strong but still alive. Bet the Tennessee Titans at +4. Also, noteworthy.. The 100% bonus up to $1000 at MyBookie ends this week! Get it before it disappears!
