This Sunday in Hard Rock Stadium, the New York Jets will take on the Miami Dolphins in an AFC East showdown. Some are starting to claim this division may be the best in football so far and things are heating up and getting very interesting between all four teams fighting for the top spot. Obviously, the New England Patriots are the team to beat in the division, but they themselves have already lost two games and all of these teams are feeling that they can make a run for the division or at least a wild card.
The line has the Miami Dolphins as a three point home favorite over the Jets. Miami is coming off a great upset win over the Atlanta Falcons while the Jets lost to the Patriots but they played them very tough. As of early Wednesday morning, a majority of the betting public liked the Dolphins to get the home cover. 59% of the betting action was on the Fish and as for the over under, 53% of the public likes the game to go over the posted total of 38.5 points.
The Miami Dolphins are coming off of a huge come from behind victory over the Atlanta Falcons this past Sunday. The Dolphins trailed by 17 points at half time and then was able to score 20 unanswered and make the plays when it mattered to stop Atlanta’s chance to win the game in the final seconds. The Dolphins defense has looked pretty good all season but the offense has been below average…until that second half against Atlanta of course. This week, they will need much of the same against the New York Jets. the Dolphins defensive line will need to hang tough against the Jets and then the offense will need to somehow and someway have the same balanced offensive attack that they did in the second half of the Atlanta game.
Miami will not only need to get the offense cooking, but they need to make sure the defense steps up as well…Like I already mentioned. Many people, including experts thought the Jets would come into 2017 and battle the Cleveland Browns for the worst record in the league and the top pick in the April’s draft. Well, the Jets came out of the gate doing what was expected going 0-2 but then they reeled off three straight wins before losing to New England in a great game this past weekend. The Jets are playing with confidence and I truly believe that they have the ability to travel into Miami and get the road win.
I could go through each player and what he can do or needs to do but this game comes down to three guys. For the Jets, it is the quarterback play of Josh McKown who is actually ranked near the top ten in passing yards so far this season. As for the Dolphins, the play of Jay Cutler and Jay Ajayi will be huge. This offense cannot succeed being one dimensional, especially if the it is the run game that is shut down and Cutler is forced to win with his. Cutler did make some good plays against Atlanta but there is no way Miami will win this game if he is asked to put the team on his shoulders…there just isn’t.
I think this game will be very competitive and very low scoring. With that said, I like the New York Jets to not only go into Miami and cover but I think they win the game straight up. the Jets will win a 20-14 type game but it will not be easy. This contest will come down to the final minutes.
