A quick look at Zack Wheeler’s stats may trick you into believing he’s a great option Friday with his 2.66 ERA. A closer look reveals that he’s been almost unhittable at home with a 1.62 ERA, but average at best on the road with a bloated 4.45 ERA. The Cardinals are flying high after knocking off Atlanta in extra innings yesterday and will send Adam Wainright to the mound, who has a filthy 2.25 ERA at home over the span of 44 innings. Tigers starter Tairk Skubal looked like he was headed for stardom early on this season, but has fallen apart as of late, allowing a massive 26 earned runs over his last 30 innings. The White Sox haven’t been playing great as of late either, losers of three of their last four contests but will feature Lucas Giolito, who appears to be back on track allowing only 3 earned runs over his last 12 innings. Reid Detmers returns from AAA to face the Baltimore Orioles who have won five games in a row. The O’s will feature one of the best pitchers in baseball that you have probably never heard of in Tyler Wells, who has been filthy as of late, allowing 3 earned runs over his last 22 innings. Like Thursday’s Cards/Braves classic pitcher’s duel, we could be in for a real doozy Friday with a Shane McClanahan vs. Luis Castillo pitching matchup. Many novice baseball handicappers keep waiting for Tony Gonsolin to come back to earth but it’s not going to happen. This guy is the real deal! He’s quietly been in the big leagues for four season and only has an ERA of over 3.00 in one season (3.23). Oddsmakers have finally caught on and the used-to-be underrated pitcher is now carrying a -280 price tag going into Thursday night’s game vs. the Cubbies. Most think the Detroit Tigers might as well not get off the bus Thursday in Chicago, as Dylan Cease has been nothing short of magical over his last 39.1 innings, allowing only TWO earned runs over that span. The Bub doesn’t give up many dingers, but is an absolute wet paper bag when it comes to walks + hits as he’s given up a combined 51 over his last 30 innings. Meanwhile, the ‘Stros veteran right hander has only allowed 6 hits and one earned run over his last 15 frames. The sportsbooks have made Houston a huge -345 favorite and -1.5 -165 on the runline.
