Ageless Wonder: 43 year old Tom Glavine has signed a 1-year deal with the Atlanta Braves. – 2/20

A-Fruad? News has surfaced that Yankees slugger Alex Rodriguez tested positive for steroids back in 2003. He had since denied any steriod use in an interview. More bad news for MLB.

Yanks re-sign Lefty: The NYY have re-signed southpaw P Andy Pettitte to a 1 year 5.5 million dollar deal. – 1/26

Retirement Announcements: The all time leader in homers for a 2B has retired. Jeff Kent has hung’em up after a brilliant 17 year career in which he belted 377 homeruns. In other retirement news, 1B Sean Casey has decided to call it quits. He will join the MLB Network as an analyst. A bit of a surprising move seeing as though he’s only 34 and still swings a pretty good stick. Lastly, lefty Kenny Rogers has retired at age 43. – 1/26

Hall of Fame Inductees: Welcome Rickey Henderson and Jim Rice to the MLB Hall of Fame. Henderson goes down as a 1st ballot inductee and Rice was in his last year of eligibility.

Ridiculous? Yankees Free Agent Spending Spree – 1/8

End of an ERA: Sources close to P John Smoltz say he will sign with the Boston Red Sox soon. – 1/7

1B Rejoins A’s: Free Agent Jason Giambi has signed with the Oakland A’s and says he’s motivated to put up good numbers. – 1/7

Big Unit Signs: P Randy Johnson has signed a one year deal with the SF Giants.

Angels Sign Closer: The Los Angeles Angels have signed Closer Brian Fuentes to a 2-year deal worth more than 16 million.

GREEDY: While we agree that business is free enterprise, we do at times feel a bit stung by some of the player contracts coming out these days because it directly affects ticket prices which WE have to eat. The latest greedy demand comes from none other than Mark Teixeira who is asking the Red Sox to pony up 184 million dollars for 8 years of service.

C.C. Sellout? C.C. Sabathia has agreed to sign with the New York Yankees for a 7 year deal worth a reported 161 million dollars.

The St. Louis Cardinals have acquired SS Khalil Greene for 2 minor leaguers. – 12/4

Trade: The Atlanta Braves have reportedly made a trade with the Chicago White Sox in which they have received hurler Javier Vazquez. The rest of the players involved is not clear at this point. Stay tuned for details. – 12/2

Wednesday News and Notes: The Washington Nationals are said to be in the running for slugger Manny Ramirez. The ChiSox are said to be actively trying to trade OF Nick Swisher. All time saves leader and long time Padre closer Trevor Hoffman has turned down the Pads offer of 4 million a year. He is likely OUT of SD before the season starts. Twins P Pat Neshek will undergo Tommy John surgery and be OUT for the 2009 season. – 11/12
